Privacy
Athrlabs builds apps that keep your data on your phone. This page explains the general approach. For app-specific details, see the relevant section below.
Provenance
Provenance is a mobile app for tracking warranties and receipts. It works entirely on your device.
The short version. Nothing you enter into Provenance leaves your phone, except the warranty-claim PDFs you explicitly choose to share via your own share sheet.
What Provenance stores on your device
- Receipts you photograph
- Item details you enter: name, store, brand, model, serial number, purchase price, dates
- Your reminder preferences
- Whether you've paid for the unlimited unlock
All of this lives in the app's private storage. Other apps cannot read it. Uninstalling Provenance deletes it.
What Provenance does not do
- It does not have a user account
- It does not send your receipts, warranty data, or photos to any server
- It does not include advertising, ad networks, or tracking SDKs
- It does not analyze your data for any purpose
- It does not share your data with any third party
Android permissions Provenance requests
- Camera. To photograph receipts. Photos are saved to the app's private storage on your device.
- Photos and storage. To let you pick existing receipt images from your gallery if you prefer.
- Notifications. To remind you locally before a warranty expires. All scheduling happens on your device. There is no notification server.
On-device text recognition
Provenance uses Google ML Kit's text recognition library to read the store name, date, and total from receipt photos. This processing happens entirely on your device. The receipt image and the extracted text never leave your phone.
The warranty-claim PDF
When you tap "File a warranty claim," Provenance generates a PDF on your device containing the item details and any photos you've added. The PDF is then handed to your phone's standard share sheet. What happens to it after that, whether you email it, message it, or save it to a cloud drive, is governed by whichever app you send it to. Provenance has no visibility into where it ends up.
The unlimited unlock
Provenance offers a one-time in-app purchase of $4.99 to remove the 3-item free-tier cap. The purchase is processed by Google Play Billing. Google Play receives your payment information. Athrlabs receives only a notification that your account has the unlock. We do not see your card details, billing address, or any other payment data.
Crash reports and analytics
Provenance does not include any analytics SDK or crash-reporting service. Google Play Console may report aggregate, anonymous install and crash data to us by default. This data is provided by Google and is not connected to anything we collect ourselves.
Your data, your control
Because all data is stored locally, you have complete control. Edit or delete any item from the app, or uninstall the app to remove everything. There is no Athrlabs server to send a deletion request to, because there is nothing on our end to delete.
